WASHINGTON (TNND) — Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James said in the wake of President-elect Donald Trump winning the race for the White House Wednesday that he will "protect" his daughter.
“HEAVY ON MY HEART & MIND THIS AM MY PRINCESS!! PROMISE TO PROTECT YOU WITH EVERYTHING I HAVE AND MORE!!!!” James captioned an Instagram post of him and his daughter, Zhuri. “WE DONT NEED THEIR HELP!”
The basketball player endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday, urging his followers on X to “VOTE KAMALA HARRIS!!!”Democrats frequently touted Harris as the candidate who would fight for women's rights, often pointing to her support for abortion access.
“What are we even talking about here??” the post reads. “When I think about my kids and my family and how they will grow up, the choice is clear to me.”
Attached to the post is a video associating Trump with David Duke, former grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, and attacks against Black people.
The words “hate takes us back” appear at the end of the video, which also includes an image of a headline that reads, “Trump doubles down on hate, promising an America of pain and fear.”
The first openly transgender person elected to Congress, Representative-elect Sarah McBride, D-Del., reiterated that sentiment in an MSNBC interview on Wednesday. She called a second Trump administration “dangerous” and said it is going to “take us back.”
“It’s gonna be hard. We’re gonna face challenges,” the congresswoman-elect told the MSNBC hosts, adding that “vulnerable” people are facing a “scary time.”
“They are facing their own crisis of hope in this moment, but I know that the story of this country is the story of our biggest challenges propelling us to take our most significant steps forward,” she said.
Early Wednesday, Trump told the crowd at a watch party hosted by his campaign that he will fight for every American.
“Every citizen, I will fight for you, for your family and your future. Every single day, I will be fighting for you and with every breath in my body,” he said. “I will not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe and prosperous America that our children deserve and that you deserve.”
