Congressman Steven Horsford, a native of Las Vegas, is taking a personal stand against the impact of tariffs on his community.

Representing the neighborhood he grew up in, Horsford has been actively engaging with locals to address their concerns about rising costs and food insecurity.

During a recent series of events, Horsford went viral after a heated exchange with Trump trade representative Jamieson Greer, accusing the Trump administration of market manipulation when certain tariffs were paused. "I for the life of me don’t know how we’re supposed to balance the budget on the backs of working families in order to give more tax breaks to billionaires," Horsford said.

In his home district, Horsford hosted a roundtable discussion with local leaders, including Cheyenne Kyle from the Obodo Collective, who highlighted the high grocery prices and reliance on international trade partners like Canada, Mexico, and China. "We’re paying the second-highest grocery prices in the nation," Kyle said.

Horsford, who has experienced food insecurity firsthand, expressed his emotional connection to the issue. "It is personal. I’ve lived the experience of food insecurity in my family," he said. "I understand what it means to go without."

Despite the economic growth reported under the Trump administration, with 177,000 jobs added in April, many in Horsford's district remain concerned about the trickle-down effect of such news.

Market customer Gale Reed shared her struggle, saying, "We have to balance paying bills and feeding the family. And the mortgage, too."

Horsford's constituents are counting on him to fight for their needs amid calls for significant spending cuts. "Our folks work hard," Horsford said. "The cumulative effect of some of these policies, it’s almost like they’re trying to break us."

As the community faces economic challenges, Horsford remains committed to advocating for the people of Las Vegas, aiming to return home victorious in his battle against policies that threaten their livelihoods.
