A juvenile has been identified as a suspect following a fire at a Dollar General in Norton and another one in Coeburn – two cities in southwest Virginia, near the border with North Carolina – Friday.

The Coeburn Police Department said the juvenile is a suspect in both fires.

The suspect set fire to a box of diapers at the Coeburn store, which was put out quickly, according to police. That store was able to reopen after fire crews left.

Fire crews responded to the fire call from the store in Norton around 12:50 Friday afternoon.

According to the Norton Fire Department, a back rack was on fire, but a customer grabbed a fire extinguisher and was able to put most of it out.

The store sustained significant smoke damage.
