A suspect wanted for burglary was shot and killed while running from police.

On Sunday at 4:19 p.m., Amarillo Police Department officers were called to the 3400 block of S. Georgia for a shooting at the Dollar Tree.

Witnesses said a female was thrown from a vehicle. When they intervened, a man in the vehicle fired shots at the witness.

A witness then returned fire and the man fled the scene in the vehicle.

An investigation identified the man as Kurt David Cobain Gaede, 25.

On Monday, APD's Special Operations Task Force learned Gaede was wanted on a felony warrant for burglary out of Randall County.

Task force officers went to the last known address for Gaede which was in the 300 block of S. Georgia.

At about 11:30 a.m., the officers saw a man they thought was Gaede approach the front of a residence and knock on the door. He was denied entry.

Task force officers approached the front of the home and tried to contact him.

He did not comply and ran to the back of the residence.

Officers gave chase and Gaede flashed a firearm.

This led to a task force officer discharging his firearm and hitting Gaede.

Gaede was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

APD's Homicide Unit is investigating the case.

Anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to call the Homicide Unit at (806) 378-9468.
